As a hotel booking platform, ehotel® sees it as its responsibility not only to operate in a climate-friendly manner itself, but also to showcase ‘green’ hotels. In collaboration with the climate protection experts at ClimatePartner, ehotel® now calculates the carbon footprint for the desired hotel stay. The amount of CO2 is calculated on a scientific basis and displayed as a compensation price. But this is only the beginning of the pro-climate partnership: very soon, ehotel® customers will be able to offset their carbon footprint by supporting a ClimatePartner climate protection project with every booking.
ClimatePartner is currently transforming a severely degraded area in eastern Nicaragua back into a diverse ecosystem by planting bamboo. This reforestation initiative not only helps to mitigate global warming in the long term and increase the biosphere’s capacity to store CO₂, but also protects around 1,000 hectares of old-growth forest.
